Hi, I’m Alyssa.

Full-stack software engineer · Southern Oregon

I care about the parts people see and the parts they should never have to think about.

I build friendly interfaces backed by efficient, secure systems and code that other developers can actually follow.

How I build

  1. 01

    Start with what people need

I map out the real use cases first, then build one useful feature at a time.

  2. 02

Make the hard parts feel simple

I simplify complicated actions so people can stay focused on what they came to do.

  3. 03

Keep it fast, safe, and readable

Performance, security, and clean code are part of the feature, not finishing touches.

Some things I’ve built

Projects that pushed me to learn.

These projects gave me room to work through the whole stack and make the product decisions along the way.

VibeStream interface showing mood-based movie discovery

Live full-stack application

VibeStream

Find something to watch based on how you feel.

I built VibeStream to make finding something to watch feel less generic. People can browse by mood, check streaming availability, save watchlists, and write reviews.

How it’s built

A React frontend and Express API normalize TMDB data, with PostgreSQL and MongoDB handling different kinds of application data.

  • Mood-based discovery rules
  • TMDB result cleanup
  • Login and session handling
  • Relational and document data
  • React
  • Node.js
  • Express
  • PostgreSQL
  • MongoDB
  • TMDB API

Live AI research project

Outside the Sandbox

Ask questions and see where the answers came from.

I built this research tool to make a complicated security story easier to explore. It streams answers with citations and keeps enough context for useful follow-up questions.

How it’s built

A React and TypeScript frontend connects to FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and a hybrid vector and keyword search RAG pipeline.

  • Source preparation by heading
  • Vector and keyword retrieval
  • Search result ranking
  • Citations and session memory
  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Python
  • FastAPI
  • PostgreSQL
  • OpenAI API

About

I like knowing how the pieces fit together.

I got into software engineering because I like taking things apart, understanding how they work, and putting them back together in a way that makes sense.

That curiosity tends to pull me across the whole stack. I’m just as happy working through a database decision as I am adjusting an interface until it feels right.

When I’m not coding, I’m probably chasing my kids, trying out an idea for a side project, or finding an excuse to get coffee. Sometimes all three happen in one afternoon.
